Relationship and Sex Education – Parent Consultation Phase 1 |
|
We are presently undertaking work to review our Relationship and Sex Education policies.
The aim of this part of the consultation is for us to share our current curriculum for Years 7 to 12 (Year 13 is being looked at presently) and how this links to what our local primary schools have told us they teach. It is also an opportunity for you to hear from our Designated Safeguard Lead around some reality of what ‘things’ students are sometimes experiencing at different ages. We will then ask parents to consider the content we presently are recommending and the age appropriateness of the curriculum suggested with the question being ‘do parents agree that X should be taught in Year Y’.
This initial session will help us then formulate our final content and allow us to progress a full consultation with all parents later in the school year.
Also in attendance will be Mr Hallam (Director of Learning for the PSHE/RSE department), Mrs Downie (Head of RSE and Religious Education) and hopefully some of the Pastoral Leads who deal with students and their pastoral needs and experiences on a daily basis.
This initial session will be held in the school hall on the 4th May at 4pm (for approximately 1.5 hours). If you can make the session (or even bring along a partner or two) it would be incredibly useful and appreciated.
If you are able to read the government guidance before the session it would also be very useful (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education)
To register to come to the evening please email mdowns@highcliffeschool.com |

Year 7 |
|
Year 7 have been actively fundraising this half-term in a number of ways for Jacksplace.
“Jacksplace is the only hospice for young adults in our region, offering the care and support they need, but also giving them the independence they often crave. We achieve this through 24 hour nursing care alongside activities and social events, both at the hospice and further afield.”
We end this term having had successful bake sales, sponsored walk, pizza sales, hot chocolate and cookies and an Easter egg raffle on 8th April. A huge thank you to our Year 7 students and their motivation and enthusiasm in supporting and organising these events.
After Easter Mr Witton will be emailing you further details of new Enrichment Activities. Please get involved and earn lots of commendations having fun whilst stretching your wider learning.
There will also be a further inter-tutor commendation challenge with treats for the winners. Watch this space for details.
A happy holiday to all our students from the Year 7 team. |

Year 8 Bournemouth University Robotics Trip
|
|
A group of Year 8's were invited to experience the world of self-driving vehicles in a LEGO Robotics workshop run by the Bournemouth University STEM outreach team. During the day the University students assisted our students and also gave presentations on their courses at the university, their aspirations and other gems of insight into the world of university.
Using a selection of robots, landscapes and items to manoeuvre around via programming the LEGO robots, Year 8 students were challenged to produce solutions in this autonomous world.
The first phase of any autonomous vehicle system would be to design a robot to follow given instructions accurately and safely which was the challenge for the teams of Year 8 students.
They worked through the challenges with great success and were awarded various prizes for speed and accuracy. The skills highlighted are those that will become more and more important as we increasingly rely on robots in the future. With drones looking like they will deliver everything we need in the future, maybe one of these students could be leading the way! |
